Career Opportunities
VT Maritime Dynamics, Inc. (MDI) is the world leading designer and
supplier of marine motion control systems for high-speed vessels.
MDI designs and builds the effectors (active trim tabs, fins,
interceptors, T-foils, and lifting foils), hydraulics, and electronics.
MDI will also occasionally assist shipyards and owners with hull
design and model testing.
Vessels
include fast monohulls, catamarans, wave piercing catamarans,
trimarans, surface effect ships, hovercraft, and hydrofoils. MDI's
design tools are state-of-the-art. MDI's naval architects, marine,
and mechanical engineers use full 3-D CAD and on-line FEA for
design modeling and simulations.
MDI's
electrical engineers use the latest circuit and control system
analysis tools. MDI's engineers and technicians are world class
and become recognized experts in their fields. Engineers at MDI
become multidisciplinary because they follow projects through
design, fabrication, installation, and system commissioning. In
addition to their field of specialization, all engineers become
conversant with electronics, hydraulics, mechanisms, structures,
hydrodynamics, and control systems.
MDI
is not a paper mill; motivated design engineers who want to make
an impact are required. Design cycles from project start to installation
and commissioning are short, usually 3 to 9 months. MDI's engineers
are given tremendous responsibility and opportunity for technical
and professional growth.
MDI
is always looking for talented individuals with multidisciplinary
skills in the following areas:
Electrical
Design Engineers: 0-5 years experience. Control systems engineer
with knowledge of servo feedback loops. Experience with shipboard
wiring or other complex system wiring as used in data acquisition
or machinery control and automation systems preferred. Thorough
understanding of non-DOS embedded software, DOS based programming,
MS-Windows, and Pascal or C programming language preferred. Demonstrated
ability to integrate control system hardware and software preferred.
Demonstrated skills in electronic systems design/testing/troubleshooting
preferred. Ability to work with multiple projects and communicate
effectively with management, engineering, and production personnel.
Electronics
Technicians: 0-2 years experience with cable assembly and
printed circuit assembly to assist with production of shipboard
electronic control systems preferred. Experience in basic cable
termination techniques and soldering preferred. Some experience
in electronic manufacturing environment preferred. Duties may
include preparing purchase orders for inventory buildup of electronic,
mechanical, and hydraulic parts and assemblies; conducting source
inspection and acceptance of vendor supplied parts and assemblies;
managing inventory and coordinating shipments. Additional duties
may include working with engineers on electrical system improvements.
Working with MIL specs a plus. Good communication skills required.
Hydraulics
Design Engineers: 0-5 years design experience needed to take
hydraulic system design and component selection through production
to shipboard installation and commissioning in a challenging multidisciplinary
(structures, mechanisms, controls, electronics) environment. Degree
in ME or MET preferred. CAD experience preferred. Short (6-9 month)
product design cycles.
Mechanical Design Engineers: 0-5 years design experience
needed to work with state-of-the-art solids modeling and on-line
FEA tools in a challenging multidisciplinary (structures, hydraulics,
controls, electronics) environment. Degree in ME, MET, or NA preferred.
CAD experience preferred. Take designs from concept to shipboard
installation and commissioning. Short (6-9 month) product design
cycles.
Salary
for all positions is commensurate with experience. Good benefits
and growth potential. Friendly and casual working environment.
Great design tools and lots of responsibility. Some travel may
be required. EOE/M/F/D/V
