Maritime Dynamics, Inc.

Maritime Dynamics, Inc. (MDI), based in Southern Maryland USA, is the world leader in marine motion control solutions for the international fast ferry and high performance military craft sectors. Founded in 1972 by a group of aerospace and marine engineers, the company was formed to provide engineering services for the design, development and testing of the US Navy's advanced air cushion and surface effect ships. In the early 1990's MDI transitioned from almost all-military work to almost all-commercial work but continues to employ cutting-edge design methodologies and continues to leverage leading-edge technology to the control vessel motions.

Company Profile

The main elements of MDI's business are design engineering, product manufacture, installation, commissioning (trials), and servicing of ride control equipment for high performance vessels. As dedicated turnkey solutions providers, MDI strives to maintain excellent relationships with our customers and obtain continuous real-world system performance feedback, which allows for continuous evaluation and improvement of our design methods, products, and motions simulation programs.

MDI successfully combines the latest control system technology with mechanical, electronics, and software engineering tools to design and manufacture ride control systems that improve passenger/crew comfort and safety. MDI designs and manufactures the electronic control systems, hydraulics, the underwater effectors (retracting, pivoting, bolt-on, and break-away T-foils in sizes ranging from 2 square meters to 13.4 square meters, retracting and non-retracting fins, interceptors, and trim tabs), and several ancillary products such as lifting foils, an autopilot, a motion sickness incidence indicator, acceleration monitors, and surface effect ship equipment such as vent valves, variable geometry fans, bow fingers and stern seals.

MDI's application and simulations engineers custom configure ride control solutions for each project. Because MDI is not affiliated with a competing shipyard or naval architectural firm, you can have ride control system parameters factored into your project very early in the design phase without risk of disclosure to others. Ride control is MDI's only business, so we are committed to providing you with solutions that fit your project rather than limiting you to an off-the-shelf compromise.

MDI has an expanding world-wide network of high-quality technical staff to ensure that your support needs will be efficiently handled. MDI understands that pre-delivery installation support is critical for shipyards and boat builders, and that system reliability and availability is paramount to operators for safety of crew and passengers. MDI has spares stocked in Australia, Europe, and the United States to minimize delivery times and keep your system up and running.

All of us at MDI sincerely appreciate the trust and loyalty shown to us by our customers. We hope that you will allow us to work with you on your next project to demonstrate our commitment to our customers and ride control.
